The playoffs are as good as gone but there is plenty to play for –16 games to show that Plymouth Argyle are on the right track, moving in the right direction and all the other cliches that you can think of. Time to show a glimpse of the future.
This season is now 30 games old. It has been a roller-coaster for the Greens, perhaps expecting a smooth campaign after relegation from the Championship: a poor start, a mini-revival, a worrying run of games that brought genuine relegation fears, then a good run, hopes of the play–offs, ended by a couple of defeats.
There was that narrow 2-1 loss at Stockport and then, a more chastening 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Lincoln last Saturday when Argyle were very much second best for most of the match against the promotion-chasing Imps.
