Ralls Boxing Day turkey highlights New Year necessity

An early red card for Joe Ralls against Reading ended the festive cheer that had surrounded Home Park but the chaos and the 4-1 defeat that ensued highlighted just how important the experienced midfielder has already become in the weeks since joining the club.

As Boxing Day dawned, Home Park basked in the glow of three wins from  out of three, there was optimism as the Greens started to look not at the relegation zone, a chance to move genuinely into mid-table and we all know what that means: talk of the playoffs.

The festive season came to a screeching halt just after 10 past three on Boxing Day.

In this time of giving and receiving, Joe Ralls gave away a penalty and then received a red card. In a crowded six-yard box, Ralls wrestled Derrick Williams to the ground just when the ball was threatening to fall at the feet of the Reading defender
